Jessica has been a special education teacher for over fifteen years. She received her Master's Degree in Moderate Special Education Pre K-8 from Lesley University in a collaborative program with the Carroll School and Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in 2008. During that time, she completed her Associate level Orton-Gillingham training at the Carroll School and became a member of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham. Jessica is currently becoming trained in Orton-Gillingham at the Certified level through Commonwealth learning. This is an additional 100 hours of coursework and 200 hours of supervised lessons in addition to the 70 hours of coursework and 100 hours of supervised lessons at the Associate level. Jessica is a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist with the International Dyslexia Association and Center for Effective Reading Instruction. She is also an Educational Therapist and member of the Academy of Educational Therapists.
As a special educator in public schools, Jessica worked as a Tier 3 special education reading teacher as well as a resource room liaison for grades K-5. She has spent many years co-teaching reading, writing and math in the general education setting in addition to providing small group pull-out services for structured literacy.
Jessica started Equipped for Learning in 2021 as a part-time job to support students in her community, within Bedford, MA. In the Fall of 2022, Jessica expanded Equipped for Learning into a full-time business working with students locally in person and across the United States online. Jessica is passionate about working with students who have dyslexia and supporting their families while collaborating with the schools.
