Services

Individualized Approach

Before services begin, goals are created for the student based on initial screenings and shared school assessments when applicable. Each lesson is individualized, diagnostic-prescriptive, and sequential, building off of the previous session. Lessons are taught in a multi-sensory way using a direct, explicit and structured approach. Concepts are constantly reviewed and built upon.

Social-emotional focus

While working with students, we focus on the whole child. It is so important to understand a child’s social-emotional state and to build a solid rapport with students. Children learn to track and celebrate their own progress in order to build intrinsic motivation. High interest materials and games entice participation and builds relationships with each student.

 Educational Services

All sessions align with the principles of Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading. Targeted skill areas could be phonemic and phonological awareness, reading decoding, fluency, encoding, reading comprehension, written expression, and executive functioning. Currently sessions are being delivered in person or virtually.

Parent/ Guardian Consults

Parents are such an important part of a child’s educational team. A free 30 minute parent consult is held prior to educational therapy starting. During these sessions, parents share their child's interests, strengths, and areas of need.  Parents are provided with regular updates along the way so they can support the child at home on their learning journey. Consults can also take place when a parent has specific questions related to school, an educational evaluation process, or a proposed IEP.

Teacher Coaching

Educators who are interested in applying structured literacy in their classrooms can schedule a consult to discuss ways to implement these approaches in the general education or small group setting. Topics to discuss can include trainings, specific questions or concerns related to a student, implementation questions or questions about administering or interpreting assessments.

Teacher coaching is also available for college or graduate students who are eager to learn about the science of reading. Support can be provided for teachers who are looking for coaching support with literacy and special education classes or for assistance with studying for the reading MTELS.
