Educational Therapy

Equipped for Learning, is an educational therapy business devoted to helping young children become better equipped to learn in the classroom setting. Educational therapy sessions are focused around the principles of Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading.

Our Approach

Equipped for Learning offers services for students in grades pre-kindergarten through fourth grade who are working below grade level. Our educational therapy sessions focus on targeted skills such as phonemic and phonological awareness, reading decoding, fluency, spelling, reading comprehension, writing, and executive functioning.  Our approach to teaching is targeted for students who have dyslexia or a language based learning disability, however, a diagnosis is not required.

Part of the Team

Equipped for Learning offers Parent/Guardian consults to assist with school based concerns. Our team based approach will support parents in understanding their child's educational needs and will help with the special education process, if applicable.

Testimonials

"My son started tutoring with Jessica while he was in preschool. I had concerns in early literacy and reading comprehension. I wanted to give him a head start before he started kindergarten. Within a month of working with Jessica, he far exceeded my expectations. He surpassed the goals Jess had set for him too. She made it fun, interactive and hands on. My son never complained about going to tutoring. I continued tutoring for him throughout kindergarten and he has grown leaps and bounds. He started to read in just a few short months into kindergarten. His testing has improved, his confidence has grown and his teacher couldn’t believe the growth in him this year. Jess was a HUGE factor in his progress and I’ll be forever grateful. I’d highly recommend Jessica if you have any early literacy concerns or just want to give your child a jump start."

"Our son has worked with Jess for the past two summers. She is highly trained, communicative, and dedicated to her students. We are very happy with the progress that our son has made and in his words “Jess challenges me in a good way!”."

"My daughter started working with Jess in kindergarten and I am SO glad that we started when we did.  My daughter is dyslexic and midway through her kindergarten year it became apparent that she needed additional help outside of what the school was providing. Jess worked with my daughter on phonological awareness, letter identification and sounds. The weekly one-on-one sessions are invaluable. In addition to her reading and language skills improving, I also noticed her confidence building.

I cannot think of one time when my daughter did not want to attend a tutoring session. Jess makes learning fun! Tutoring sessions involve game based learning and hands on experiences personalized to your child's age and skill level.

In addition to directly supporting my daughter, Jess helped my husband and I navigate the IEP and testing process. Prior to IEP meetings, Jess provides feedback on the document, helps us prepare for the meeting and offers her recommendations on what a successful outcome would be. We are so grateful for her!"

"Jessica was a pleasure to consult with. She was well informed in many areas related to both business and education. She was very organized and provided a thorough follow up email detailing our conversation with reference links I am sure to use many times. She was also warm, inviting, and personable. Multiple professionals can benefit from her expertise including small business owners, classroom educators, and reading interventionists.”

"Jessica is an amazing tutor. I worked with her to help pass the new Reading Specialist MTEL. Not only is she knowledgeable of reading, but she also does an incredible job explaining all of the material. Jessica asked me exactly what I wanted to focus on and created lessons directly tailored to me. I would not have been prepared for my MTEL without her help!"
